EBTC Round 7, Nov 2000- Ockendon

(Results Bottom of the Page)

The last competition of the season would happen to be the muddiest! Due to heavy rain over the weeks leading up to the Trial the sections were in a state. At least 7 of the 10 sections resembled Mud Baths more than they did sections, but although some sections were ankle deep in mud the riders just got one with it, after all it's not like we get to chose the weather, it was just tough luck.

{Essex Bike Trial Round 7, 2000}

The Highlight had to be the 1st section or the 'section of death' as it should have been known, it was so straight forward, or so it seemed. But the mud made up for the simplisity I can assure you! For some riders it was a struggle keeping balance in the start gate, The mud was so thick that you really had to push yourself to get any where at all. Take the Intermediate route for example, Out of the 40 riders that entered and so the 80 times that section was attempted only 15 of the 80 attempts resulted in a rider getting to the finish gate withot using all their dabs. There were 2 cleans on that section and sixtyfour 5's!

{Overall Elite Champion for 2000 Barry Huskinson}

Results wise in the elite class it was a close three way tie between Barry Huskinson, Stevie Thompson and Kris Leeson, eventualy Barry won due to 'cleaning' more of the sections. DMR old boy Darren King on his 'King' frame did well to come in at 4th place just behind the main three riders. Respect has to be given to Richard Eyre who prior to this event had been entering Intermediate competitions, only to enter elite and beat 3 semi established elite riders, well done!

And in the intermediate route, 3 time Slovakian womens world champion Gabriela Danikova beat all other competitors to take top spot showing the boys how it's done.
