Trackstand

This is the most basic skill in trials. It uses the skill of balancing your bike to a near stand still, but with small movements. The trackstand is the perfect skill to learn if you are a complete beginner and can be done on almost any bike.

{Trackstand}

Step 1: It is easiest to start by learning on a slight slope with your front wheel towards the slope. roll up the slope at a walking pace and as you come to a stand still or you put your front brake on turn the front wheel 45 degrees to the side that feels most comftable (try both ways)

step 2: Now you have your front wheel at 45 degrees to your best side you have to keep your front wheel gently moving back and forth to keep your balance on the bike. This is done by small pedal strokes, try to do it without your brakes locked on at all but your fingers covering them all the time. Have your strong foot forward and cranks horizontal. Put small amounts of pressure on the forward pedal to move your front wheel out slightly, once you make one small dab on the pedal and your front wheel rolls to far to side you use your weight to bring it back to where you first started, You do this by shifting your weight back enough to roll the front wheel back, try different amounts of weight until you get it right. You have to keep doing this for as long as possible. When doing this you must have your weight forward over the stem but not to far forward. Keep a stiff contact with the bike but don't lock your arms or legs.

Bullet Points:

  • It is not a static move
  • Don't lock the brakes up, feather them on and off
  • Is easier to learn on a slight incline
